Steer types

Steers are the questions our clients ask our users. They are used to “steer” product innovation decisions by quickly understanding what the general public feels about a whole range of things.

Taking insights from behavioural science the steers are designed to trigger impulsive responses, mirroring the experience of shopping and choosing between different products – for most purchases shoppers make a decision in seconds or even fractions of a second.

Using our self-service platform our clients send out steers to consumers, getting answers fast: a steer sent out to the whole community will usually have 500 responses inside an hour.

The Single Answer steer lets you define up to fifteen options, of which the consumer can select only one. The order of the options can be randomised and a steer image is optional.

Example questions

Question: How often do you buy X?
Options: Every day/most days/roughly once a week/roughly once a month/less frequently/never

Question: Which is your favourite X?
Example options: Competing products, favourite sport on TV

Results

The results show you the percentage of respondents who selected each option.

Similar steers

The Multi Answer steer allows the consumer to select multiple options, rather than just one.

The Multi Answer steer lets you define up to fifteen options, of which the consumer can select some or all. The order of the options can be randomised and a steer image is optional.

Question: Which of these have you bought in the last six months?

Question: Where do you like to buy X?
