Vypr’s QA Lead is a Manchester-based hybrid role focused on designing and implementing automated testing strategies for our product intelligence platform to ensure quality and reliability at scale.

What we do

Vypr is a Manchester HQ’d Private Equity/Venture Capital backed SaaS business. Our market-leading product intelligence platform provides reliable consumer data to help manufacturers and retailers understand what their customers want to see on shelves. This helps reduce the time and cost spent developing new products, which makes for better products, faster.

We’re a scale-up business with huge growth ambitions. We’ve proved product market fit with our existing offering and now we’re ready to scale at pace. We’re using scalable new technology to reimagine our product intelligence platform with limitless future potential, from personalisation to AI enhanced insight.

Our cross-functional, agile product team collaborates to design, build, and deliver Vypr’s brand-new AI-driven platform. Comprising software engineers, mobile engineers, automation engineers, product managers, designers, and a delivery manager, the team is guided by modern tech principles—such as a serverless-first approach, event-driven architecture, and CI/CD—to build scalable, secure, and highly available solutions that drive innovation and growth.

Things that you will do

  • Design, implement, and maintain an automation-first QA strategy to ensure fast, reliable, and scalable testing.
  • Develop and execute automated test cases for functional, regression, and performance testing using Playwright.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to define testing requirements and integrate QA early in the development cycle (shift-left testing).
  • Monitor and enhance test coverage, identifying gaps and reducing flakiness in automation.
  • Investigate test failures, debug issues, and support engineers in resolving defects efficiently.
  • Continuously optimize CI/CD testing pipelines to improve deployment confidence and release velocity.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging tools to enhance software quality.
  • Promote a culture of quality by mentoring engineers and advocating for better testing practices across the team.

What you will be responsible for

  • Defining and executing the QA strategy to ensure high-quality, scalable, and secure software delivery.
  • Owning and improving test automation frameworks to support rapid feature development and deployment.
  • Driving quality-focused initiatives, such as exploratory testing, performance testing, and test data management.
  • Reducing defect escape rate by ensuring robust testing processes and proactive defect prevention.
  • Enhancing test efficiency and reliability, reducing test execution time and increasing test stability.
  • Establishing measurable QA targets, such as increased automation coverage, faster release cycles, and reduced production incidents.
  • Providing visibility into software quality metrics and ensuring stakeholders have confidence in release readiness.
  • Fostering a high-performance QA culture, mentoring engineers, and driving continuous improvement in testing processes.

What you are good at

  • You have strong experience in creating and maintaining automated test scripts using tools like Playwright, Cypress or similar, and are confident in developing an automation-first approach.
  • You are skilled in testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and debugging, with a good understanding of serverless architectures and modern development practices.
  • You have a sharp eye for detecting issues and ensuring that software meets functional and performance requirements.
  • You are an excellent communicator who can clearly share progress, challenges, and solutions with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
