Maurice Melis

Retail expert, brand & growth leader

Maurice Melis is a retail leader with over 25 years of experience working with leading retailers and fast moving consumer goods companies. He has built trusted supplier relationships and led end-to-end strategies across brand development, innovation and in-store performance. 

Maurice spent 12 years at Woolworths Group in a variety of senior leadership roles spanning Supermarkets, Big W, eCommerce, and Corporate Strategy. His responsibilities included managing grocery categories worth over $1 billion in sales, driving profitability through commercial and supply chain transformation, and leading digital innovation across Woolworths’ multichannel and pureplay retail operations. 

As a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Maurice also advises leadership teams and boards on building commercially sustainable, customer-first strategies that deliver long-term value for both retailers and suppliers. 

He brings a rare combination of deep retail expertise and supplier-side perspective, offering real-world insight into how major retailers and suppliers strengthen loyalty, build repeat purchase behaviour, and drive lasting customer connection across categories and channels.

Karen Mitchell

FMCG supplier, expert & leader

Karen Mitchell is a senior commercial leader and management consultant with over 25 years of experience in the FMCG retail and manufacturing sectors across the UK and Australia. Her career spans roles on both the retailer and supplier sides, bringing a unique, well-rounded perspective to the commercial challenges facing businesses today. 

Karen has held leadership roles at organisations such as HS Fresh Food Group and Lantmännen Unibake in Australia, where she managed major retail accounts including Woolworths, Coles, and Aldi, and led high-performing teams across sales, category, and innovation. Her time at Coles as a Category Manager across bakery, deli, and seasonal foods gave her invaluable insight into buying behaviour and supplier dynamics. 

She has deep expertise in sales, category management, product development, consumer insights, and P&L ownership, with a proven track record of driving business transformation and delivering strong commercial results. 

Now working as a management consultant and non-executive board director, Karen partners with FMCG businesses to advise on commercial strategy, procurement, NPD, and innovation—helping them identify growth opportunities, build capability, and navigate change with confidence.

Sam Gilding

With over 15 years of experience leading go-to-market (GTM) teams in the research, insights, and data sectors, Sam has been instrumental in impressive Vypr’s growth since joining in 2020, helping the business to 3x in the last 5 years. 

At Vypr, Sam works closely with retailers, enterprise and mid-market food & beverage and CPG suppliers, and major QSR operators, helping them harness predictive consumer insights to make data-driven product decisions that fuel business growth.
